iAMP-Hydro – New Project to Make EU’s Hydroelectric Power More SustainableWIP
is proud to announce its involvement in the newly-launched Horizon
Europe project iAMP-Hydro (intelligent Asset Management Platform for
Hydropower), which has been awarded €4.1 million to develop digital
solutions that will improve the efficiency, flexibility, and
sustainability of the existing EU hydropower fleet. Half of the current
hydro generation assets in Europe may require upgrading by 2030. Thus,
the project has the potential to make a huge impact on energy
sustainability in the EU (i.e., by reducing CO2 emissions by 1,260
tonnes, while saving €1 billion per year and creating 10,000
future-proof jobs).
More specifically, the project will improve the operations of existing
hydropower stations through the development of new digital sensors and
services, which will collectively form iAMP: a novel intelligent Asset
Management Platform encompassing secure, open, and transparent
data-sharing protocols and three novel digital solutions. These include
new condition monitoring and predictive maintenance tools for hydropower
turbines, ecological water status monitoring, and improved weather and
flow forecasting.

ICARUS – New Project to Advance Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)The
Icarus Consortium is dedicated to revolutionising Sustainable Aviation
Fuel (SAF) production by addressing critical technological limitations
in key routes: Biocrude from hydrothermal liquefaction, Isobutanol from
lignocellulosic biomass, and Synthetic Fischer-Tropsch from biomass
gasification. These value chains have been strategically chosen due to
their proximity to market deployment and their pivotal role in meeting
European and international SAF deployment targets.
The kickoff meeting was held on 30 and 31 October 2023 in beautiful
Crete, Greece, as we embark on a journey towards a greener aviation
future. Together, we will significantly advance SAF production and
reduce the aviation industry's environmental footprint.

GIFFT – New Project Greening Europe's Glass Industry! The
EU-funded GIFFT project kicked off at the Lithuanian Research,
Development, and Innovation Liaison Office on 12 October 2023. Focused
on transforming glass manufacturing, GIFFT employs plasma-assisted
combustion and bio-based solutions to enhance sustainability. The
kick-off meeting, attended by Dr. Nerijus Striūgas and Javier Sanchez
Lopez, outlined the project's structure and objectives. Work package
leaders shared plans for concept development and combustion systems,
marking a robust start. GIFFT aspires to revolutionise the glass
industry through collaborative efforts and sustainable innovation.

POWER-E-COM – New Life Project to Empower Energy CommunitiesThe new LIFE project, POWER-E-COM, coordinated by WIP, officially commenced earlier this month.
The project aims to facilitate the emergence of new local energy
communities in six different European countries: Austria, Bulgaria,
Germany, Ireland, Slovenia, and Spain. This initiative brings together
regional and local authorities with interested citizens to develop a
replicable process, covering everything from conceptual energy community
design to the effective establishment of these energy communities.
The project's pre-kickoff meeting, where partners convened for the first
time with the entire consortium, took place online on 17 October 2023.
WIP organised the official kickoff meeting of POWER-E-COM at their venue
on 23 & 24 October. We are thrilled to be coordinating this LIFE
project and look forward to empowering energy communities!

BioTheRos – New Project to Accelerate the Scale-Up of Sustainable BiofuelsThe
EU-funded BioTheRos project has officially started in October 2023. The
project's first consortium get-together took place in Athens, on 18
October. During its 3-year duration, the projects aims to develop best
practices and concepts along the entire value chain for accelerating the
scale-up of sustainable biofuels for the maritime and aviation sector
via international collaboration. Read the project’s first press release to learn more about BioTheRos and follow us on LinkedIn and X to keep up with all the news!
