Half of Europe’s energy consumption is used for heating and cooling (H&C). However, two thirds of the heating systems installed in European buildings are inefficient. In order to achieve climate neutrality, the decarbonisation of the space heating and cooling in residential sector is therefore essential.
The REPLACE project partners are pleased to invite you to the webinar “Towards Renewable Heating & Cooling: Replacement of Inefficient Systems in the Residential Sector” to present the key findings of the project and discuss the framework conditions for replacement, exchanging old conventional fossil fuel systems with renewable ones.
This webinar is an excellent opportunity to learn how the phase-out of fossil-based heating systems can be brought forward in the European agenda and to find out more about modern renewable technologies. In collaboration with the BUILD UP Portal, we invite you for discussions on how renewable energy at home can contribute to Europe’s energy transition, while empowering consumers in their energy choices.

While solar photovoltaics markets are booming globally, the question of sustainability has never been more important than now: PV paves the way for drastically reducing carbon emissions globally and in Europe, accelerating the energy transition and significantly contributing to creating jobs and economic value. However, the question of how to improve the sustainability of PV products is still at the core of the political agenda, with the need to develop an energy sector cleaner, greener and more sustainable than the one it is replacing. One of the key policy instruments that could increase the sustainability of PV products is the ecodesign concept and its derivatives. This event intends browsing through the current situation and highlighting the positive impacts on the market and industry that such policies could trigger.

The Upgrade DH project supports the upgrading and retrofitting process of district heating (DH) systems in different climate regions of Europe, covering various countries: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Denmark, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, and The Netherlands. This event will be a perfect opportunity to present and discuss project results and achievements: the collection of the best upgrading measures and tools, upgrading processes of concrete DH systems initiated in each of the target countries, replication activities in other European countries and DH systems. Of course, the energy transition road has never been smooth, and we faced some challenges when implementing upgrading measures in our demo cases and supporting the modernisation process in selected district heating networks, when looking for the appropriate financing and business models and trying to improve the public perception of DH networks. Our experiences and recommendations for the development or retrofitting of DHC networks will be presented at the final project conference. Additionally, in the afternoon, participants will have a chance to (virtually) visit two CHP plants that recently undertook upgrading measures and can serve as inspiration for other DH systems striving to become more efficient.
